Benefits of Winning The Swedish Scholarship

No matter how much the tuition fees are for your Master’s programme, the Swedish scholarship will cover it fully.

You don’t have to worry about how to communicate with your university after winning the Swedish scholarship as the Swedish Institute will handle all that backend notification.

All you have to do is win the Swedish scholarship for International students and make yourself available at the start of the programme.

Monthly allowances
As a Swedish scholarship recipient, you receive a payment of 10,000 SEK (that’s about US$1,049) every month.

This sum of money is enough to cover all your expenses as a student in Sweden, including your accommodation.

You can even have enough left at the end of the month to save or send to your loved ones back home. I’m speaking from experience about this.

Travel Grant
Once you arrive Sweden, you’ll be reimbursed with a sum of 15,000 SEK (about US$1,573) for your transportation expenses from your home country.

Health Insurance
As a recipient of the Swedish scholarship, you receive the same healthcare that a Swedish citizen is entitled to at no cost.

I’ve been to the hospital here a few times and I’ve only paid a token for doctor appointments.

Membership of the Swedish Institute Network For Future Global Leaders (SI NFGL)
When you win the scholarship, you become an automatic member of the Swedish Institute Network For Future Global Leaders.

It is a network exclusively for recipients of the Swedish Institute scholarships, and as a member, you get opportunities for networking in the Swedish professional space through conferences, study visits, etc.

Hassle-free Visa Application
In Sweden, if you’ll be staying for more than 3 months, a residence permit is issued instead of a visa and you’ll be given a residence permit card.

As a recipient of the Swedish Institute Study Scholarship, Swedish Scholarships for International Students, while others may be grappling with submitting bank account statements for their residence permit application for studies.

Swedish Scholarships for International Students, all you have to do as a recipient of the Swedish Institute Study Scholarship is to submit your admission letter (which you’ll receive immediately you’re admitted), your scholarship offer letter and your international passport.

Also while others are required to pay a residence permit application fee of 1000SEK, as an SI scholarship recipient, residence permit application is free for you.

No requirement to leave Sweden after your studies
I’m sure you’re aware that most full scholarships of this kind require you to go back to your home country for a period of time.

You can win the Swedish scholarship even with Second Class Lower Bachelor’s degree
One of my students from Kenya in the last application, Elizabeth, finished with a Second Class Lower grade and still got the scholarship.

The Swedish scholarship doesn’t even ask for your grades. They only care about your work and leadership experiences.

No IELTS or any English proficiency documentation to study in Sweden.

I never wrote any English proficiency test before I applied and I just finished my Master’s studies in Sweden.

If you studied in Nigeria, Ghana and some other English-speaking African countries, you don’t need any English proficiency test results to apply for Master’s in Sweden.

Master’s programmes are taught in English in Sweden

All international Master’s programmes in Sweden are taught in English. Besides, more than 70% of Swedes speak very fluent English.

You can get by with your daily life without a knowledge of the local language, Swedish. But, Swedish is easy to learn.

In fact, the Swedish government provides free Swedish classes for immigrants who intend staying in the country for at least 1 year.

And how strong is the Swedish economy?

Sweden is the home of companies like Volvo, Scania, Ericsson, Tetra Pak, Skype, Spotify, IKEA, H&M, Electrolux.

These are some of the biggest companies in the world and they’re headquartered in Sweden. Now, what does that tell you about Sweden’s economy?…Yeah, strong!

They’re even ranked the most innovative country in the European Union. Swedish higher education system is ranked top-5 in the world.

Swedish Scholarships for International Students

Swedish Scholarships for International Students Master’s admissions applications and the Swedish Institute scholarship applications are handled by two different organisations.

Swedish Scholarships for International Students Master’s applications are handled by an organisation called University Admissions in Sweden. This is their website: www.universityadmissions.se

And the Swedish Scholarships for International Students full scholarship is handled by an organisation called the Swedish Institute. This is their website: www.si.se

In Sweden, you don’t send applications for Master’s to individual universities.

You send everything to an organization called University Admissions in Sweden, which accepts these applications on behalf of the universities, and they’re quite different from the Swedish Institute which handles applications for the scholarship.

So, you submit entirely different types of documents for the Master’s application and the scholarship application.

On the University Admissions in Sweden website, you select a maximum of 4 programmes in the same university or different universities and rank them according to an order of priority of your own choosing.

If you get admitted into your first choice programme, the other 3 are deleted. Otherwise, your second choice is considered and so on.

The details of the requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Certificates and Diplomas
  • Transcripts
  • Official English language test
  • Proof that you meet the specific entry requirements
  • International Passport

Required Documents For The Swedish Scholarships for International Students

  • Motivation Letter
  • Curriculum Vitae
  •  Letters of references
  • Proof of Work/Leadership Experience
